1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using TV Guessbox ("the Service"), on the web or in our app, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please do not use the Service.
2. Intellectual Property
TV Guessbox is a trivia game about TV shows, movies and video games. TV and film information, promotional images and cast details are provided by the TMDB API. Video game information comes from IGDB and Steam. TV Guessbox is not endorsed by or affiliated with TMDB, IGDB, Steam, or any network, studio or publisher. All titles, logos, posters and characters are the property of their respective copyright holders.
3. Accounts
You may play as a guest without an account. A guest's progress and coin balance are stored against an anonymous identifier held in your own device's browser storage: if you clear that storage, use a different device, or use private browsing, that progress and balance cannot be recovered by us. Creating an account ties them to you instead, which is why an account is required to purchase coins.
You are responsible for activity under your account. Accounts are personal to you and may not be sold, shared, or transferred.
4. Matches and Opponents
Quick Match always looks for another player first. If no one is available within a short time, you may be matched against a computer-controlled opponent instead, and a rematch with that opponent is also against the computer. Computer-controlled opponents play the same hidden title under the same rules and round timer as you, and a match against one earns coins and XP in exactly the same way as a match against a person.
Matches you start with Challenge a Friend, or by inviting someone from your friends list, are always against the person who accepts.
5. Coins
Coins are a virtual in-game item used to unlock cosmetic items (player icons, frames and name plates) and optional clues ("hints") during matches. When you obtain coins, whether by playing or by purchase, you receive a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use them within the Service. You do not own them.
- Coins have no monetary value, are not a currency, credit, deposit, or stored-value instrument, and cannot be exchanged for cash or anything else of value.
- Coins cannot be sold, gifted, traded, or transferred to another player or account.
- Coins are consumed when you choose to unlock a hint or a cosmetic item (a player icon, frame or name plate). Spending is final, and a spent coin cannot be restored.
- Cosmetic items change only how you appear to other players, never how a match plays. Each one is a licence to display that item in TV Guessbox; they have no monetary value and cannot be transferred or exchanged. We may retire an item from sale, but an item you have already unlocked stays yours while your account remains active.
- One coin balance is shared across Movies, TV Shows, and Video Games.
- We may change the number of coins a hint or cosmetic item costs, the number of coins awarded for play, and the contents and prices of coin packs. Changes apply going forward and do not alter coins you have already bought or spent.
- Coins do not expire while your account remains active. We may remove coins obtained through error, fault, or breach of these Terms.
Buying coins does not increase the maximum number of hints available to you in a match. Every player is allowed the same hints per match on the same schedule, whether their coins were purchased or earned.
6. Purchases, Pricing, and Refunds
Coin packs are optional. Nothing in the Service requires a purchase to play.
- Prices are shown in pounds sterling (GBP) and include UK VAT where applicable. The price displayed at the point of purchase is the price you pay.
- Payment is taken at the time of purchase, and coins are added to your balance immediately.
- You must be 18 or over, or have the permission of a parent or guardian who accepts these Terms on your behalf and is responsible for the payment, to make a purchase.
- You must use a payment method you are authorised to use.
Your right to cancel. Coins are digital content supplied immediately. Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 you normally have 14 days to cancel a purchase of digital content, but that right is lost once supply has begun with your express consent and your acknowledgement that you will lose it. By purchasing a coin pack you give that consent and acknowledgement, and you therefore lose your 14-day right to cancel as soon as the coins reach your balance.
Beyond this, purchases are final and we do not offer refunds for coins you have bought or spent. This does not affect your statutory rights where digital content is faulty, not as described, or not fit for purpose — if coins you paid for do not arrive, or the Service is materially broken, contact us at the address below and we will put it right.
If you bought coins through a third-party app store or payment provider, that provider's own refund policy may also apply, and a refund request may need to go to them.
7. Suspension, Termination, and Closure of the Service
You may stop using the Service at any time, and delete your account from the account panel (tap your initial at the top of the screen, then Delete account). Deleting your account permanently removes it along with your coins, purchases, cosmetic items, levels, achievements and friends, and cannot be undone. Unspent coins are not refundable on closure of your account, whether you close it or we do.
We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these Terms, abuses the Service, or attempts to obtain coins by means other than playing or purchasing. Unspent coins on a terminated account are forfeited.
The Service is offered for as long as we choose to offer it. If we withdraw it permanently, we will give reasonable notice where we can, and no refund will be due for unspent coins except where the law requires one.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
TV Guessbox is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis. We make no warranties, expressed or implied, regarding the availability, accuracy, or uninterrupted functionality of the game. Nothing in these Terms limits our liability where it cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or under your statutory rights as a consumer.
9. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United Kingdom, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Nothing here removes your right to bring proceedings in your own country of residence where consumer law gives you that right.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms. The Effective Date above shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms. Where a change materially affects purchases you have already made, it will not apply retroactively to those purchases.
